The Schladming-Dachstein Region is an absolute Eldorado for mountaineers and rock-climbing fans. In fact, the oldest via ferrata in the Eastern Alps, to the top of the Dachstein, was built here some 170 years ago. Thus in 1909, two brothers from Ramsau, "Franz and Irg", were the first to successfully climb the south face of the Dachstein without use of modern rock-climbing equipment.
